Just a brief hello. My name is Steve, I'm an old LCR member from pre internet days.
I bought a Mk 1 '63 car in 1986 which was stored in various barns and outbuildings until it was consigned to a shipping container in the mid 90's. The car was a bit of a mess when it was bought and was basically a shell and lots of bits.
The container was opened up a couple of weeks ago to reveal a real disaster; the container roof had sprung a leak. The panic now is: can the car be saved or is it a scrap job. I am now retired and I need to move out of my factory before the end of the month which is where the car is.
The plan was always restoration but now I'm not sure, if anyone in the my area, Basildon in Essex, could help I really would appreciate some advice.

Hi Steve - I'm in Wickford near you so could pop round and take a look as I have seen many basket cases restored by a friend of mine so could probably let you know if it's too far gone & the costs involved.

Has anyone kept a tally of the number of "Steves" using this forum?
Quite a few "Daves" as well, come to think of it.

Thank you all for the words of encouragement, it's made me feel less despondent. I think my main concern is that the restoration costs may well outweigh the final value. I have a partner in this project who is well versed in the costs of restoration, although on cars of considerably higher value. For the moment I need an experienced pair of eyes to give an unbiased opinion. I've just picked up a pm from Keith, who looks as though he is very close to my workshop - I'll be in contact later.
I am greatly heartened by the news of so many Steve's; - perhaps Steve is the new Dave

Let Colin cast his experienced eye over it,- a 63 car is always collectable and worth a few ££s when restored. Post some photos if you can
