Hi Simon, I too only use my car during the summer, for shows, family days out, picnics, or just for the hell of it, but in my bit of the world it can be 4 seasons in one day, so worrying about rain showers making it wet would mean it never coming out of the garage.
Several times I have been told by peple that if they owned my car, they wouldn't use it, as it's too nice, but if I couldn't use it the way I do, then I just couldn't see the point of having it.
It has been in use for 12 summers now and is still good enough to win 3 trophies this year, so where's the harm in using it.
Don't skimp on the paint and rustproofing and they should come to no harm in summer use, it's the winter salt that really kills cars.

Hi, As owner of 3 Lotus Cortinas I find it amusing to read your comments about shows. As we all know owners from the south in general get a nose bleed when they have to go outside the M25 area and if there is a cloud in the sky. If you new how many Lotus Cortina owners go to shows who are not members of your club for the reason you are all talking about, if all classic car owners had your mind set there would be no car shows. As grown men can you not see why your club has gone down hill in attendance over the years. I know Lotus Cortina owners who travel 1000s of miles and over seas every year,as one of your members said stop gloating over your car and get it used you can not take it with you when you die.You can always restore it again.RONV.
Whats up Ron, this post is a little bitter isnt it. to sterotype all who live within the M25 and down "South" as getting nosebleeds when traverling outside of the M25 is a a bit much.
It would be like me saying that your bitterness could be due to the fact that your ferrets have just got in your pidgeon loft, scoffed your prize bird and crapped on your flat cap, just because you hail from Blackpool. a Northern Sterotype blatenly not true.
As Old Racer has said, a totally pointless, un-helpful post.
If you have issues with the LCR ( which you certainly seem to have ) start a new post in a different area, (but you are limited as a non-member as where you can post) and it can be discussed there, but lets leave out the percieved North-South divide shall we

And as for the bloody Hinehead Tunnel, it's been blocked solid with traffic since it opened last week!!

There was a good turnout of Lotuses at the Mk1 Owners club last weekend. Stratford is well placed - why not combine? - and its in the Midlands where it doesn't rain that much.

I went to the Sunbeam Lotus O.C. AGM last Saturday. It was held at the Curborough Sprint Circuit (near Lichfield). It's a large site with simple facilities but the highlight is the use of the circuit. Members paid only £15 for unlimited circuit access (at full speed) for 5 hours. Better than a track day. Must be an option for the LCR.

Nice idea
I'd be up for that. I ran a Lotus twin cam powered 105E there over 20 years ago, . . . but only came 3rd in class.
No! there wasn't only 3 cars in my class, more like 20!
I still own the same car & it still has the same engine in it, . . . it'd be nice to do it again, . . but now im 'fatter' in a Lotus Cortina.

I admit I have never restored or owned a newly restored car of any make, but I am damn sure that if I did I would want to drive the wheels off it come rain or shine!!
If it took thirty odd years of neglect to get to the stage of needing a complete rebuild, and then once it has been restored with proper rust proofing how long will it take before it needs redoing? A lot longer than I will be driving for I'm sure.
I guess I don't get concourse restorations,
a tidy driver is all that I want, that's why I put 6000 miles on my Daytona a couple of years ago, driving coast to coast in the 'States.

I'm with John H. Let's drive the things. My Mk2 has done at least 3,000 miles this year. Concours cars live in Museums.

Hi 83man& John H,I have said enough on this subject its like a pint on the bar do I just look at it or do I drink it. I am setting off to Angouleme on Tuesday to classic racing over 2000 miles see photo on this forum.Ron.[img][img]

Good for you. I've been to Angouleme a few times - it's absolutely brilliant.
Anyway, to get back on topic, if owners are not prepared to travel to a national day it doesn't matter where you hold it so, forget them. Wherever it is arranged it will on the doorstep for some and miles away for many others. Obviously it's sensible to stay 'central' to appeal to the largest possible number. The only alternative is to move it to a different region every year and to be sufficiently disciplined about it to make sure that it does, in fact, move around. Let the Committee decide and get on with it. The sooner a date and venue is announced the greater will be the attendance.
