Was nice to meet Will and Anton in the flesh, at Cars in the Park.
I was actually there for the Avenger/Sunbeam national day but here are some lotus cortina pics I took.

Why not have the LCR national at the MK 1 owners national day , i`ve been there the past four years and it is an amazing show , with lots of spares available as well ???

Maybe the very point is, seven hundred E-types at Silverstone made a big show, I don’t care for em personally but, took a line photo !!! strewth !!

I don’t know how many UK LCR members there are 'right now' but I doubt anywhere near 700.

So, does it come down to, we just don’t have enough CARS at any time, to make a serious show? (I am told the best ever was circa 60 two or three years ago?)

Perhaps that indicates we simply 'must' join with another suitable club or clubs to go forward?

Does it need to be a one time one venue birthday hit or, could it be broken down into a birthday 'year' of celebrations, Silverstone, Goodwood Revival, etc
Made a bit more prominent because of the special occasion. (Silverstone was rather in a corner me thinks?)

I agree with this statement. Unless you have a club with many hundreds of members it is extremely difficult to get enough enthusiasm for one event on one day at one location in the year.

I also agree with trying to make it "mid country" or in area where most members live. ie say 50 miles from the bulk membership area.

AVO day sounds good to me even if it is more than 50 miles away.

H Cortina - I have also suggested we join forces with another club, perhaps at the AVO day (assuming they will still be holding their event at the same venue next year, which is of course an ideal location). I have also publicly stated on here that I would be willing to help organise it but other members of the Committee don't seem keen on this suggestion.

Hang on a minute Simon, yes you suggested the AVO day and yes it is a
central location, but after holding their National at the same venue for 21 years I believe that even they are looking to move, so even if it was agreed and if they would accomodate the LCR if we don't know where the event is being held we can't commit.

The committee, of which you are a member will listen to all ideas that are put forward, not just those put forward on this forum, but via the total membership via the QB, which reaches 100% of the membership not just the 33% of the membership that use this forum.

I would suggest that you read the next QB and then put forward your thoughts and ideas via the QB and the forthcoming AGM to reach the total membership.

As things stand at present its not "help to organise the National Day" but someone to step forward to "Organise" the National Day that is required, more details on this and the rest of the debate on the National Day will be in the forthcoming QB.

In that case, over to you Mexico Tim. As a starting point at least, have any firm decisions been made about the location of your National Day next year?

no there hasnt been any decisions made as of yet and wont be thing will towards the end of the year, as same as you guys only a small % of members used our forum so will have to go out in our club mag to reach all

Hi, As owner of 3 Lotus Cortinas I find it amusing to read your comments about shows. As we all know owners from the south in general get a nose bleed when they have to go outside the M25 area and if there is a cloud in the sky. If you new how many Lotus Cortina owners go to shows who are not members of your club for the reason you are all talking about, if all classic car owners had your mind set there would be no car shows. As grown men can you not see why your club has gone down hill in attendance over the years. I know Lotus Cortina owners who travel 1000s of miles and over seas every year,as one of your members said stop gloating over your car and get it used you can not take it with you when you die.You can always restore it again.RONV.

You've made some valid points there Ron. However, a lot of owners don't like using their cars in adverse weather simply to preserve them, particularly important when you consider the fact that in most cases restoration costs are very high and many people don't have any intention of restoring a car again. Once my car is completed it won't be getting wet. I have always found that the best way of preserving a car is to keep it dry during the summer months and damp free when it is laid up for the winter.

I'm finding a lot of these comments very daft..Personally I'd pay good money to drive 1000's of miles to NOT do a show within the M25 area!
I'm happy to let owners enjoy there cars in there own way.

As a 'general' LC owner who does live in the south, I am sure would certainly have noticed a nose bleed each time I ventured outside the M25. like Silverstone last Sunday............and it was persissting on the way......

Is there a list of other people who are not in the club? Errrr, Sorry, I mean the ‘Lotus Cortina Register’ I am not aware of?

Maybe there is another ‘club’ no one seems to have heard of, that does have members who do drive 1000s of miles every year then?

According to my mum who says, I am all grown up and a big now, I was able notice a completely pointless, un-helpful post that achieves nothing on here.

Having already spent my entire working life with cars, why would I be so stupid as to let mine go rusty and then restore it again? Of course, there ARE folks who are into, and enjoy a bit pain. I am reliably informed there ARE 'special clubs for you’ !!

Sorry if I am being stupid, but I have completely lost the point of this thread somewhere.
Not getting a lotus cortina wet, how are we going to manage that in our climate, other than never take it out (or wash it for that matter). Are our cars now supposedly worth so many £££££ that they are too valuable to use? I have used my lotus for 12 summers in wet and dry since restoration, putting 15000 miles on in the process and enjoyed it all.
Get them out there and use them otherwise you might as well collect old china plates and sit at home and admire those.
A car that's not running and used is just a "dead" bit of metal and pointless.
As for trailering a car to shows, where is the pleasure in trailing around the country in some 4x4, or truck (no sound of webers gulping there) with a proper car in tow, begging to be used.
For me a trip to the mainland for a show usually ends up costing £1000 plus, so are normally only a special trip, for once in a while (done 2 national days in 15 years of ownership). There's no way I could afford it as a regular event.

I respect your views Tommy. The point I was trying to make was that I would prefer not to use my car in the wet. Apart from the fact that rain and old cars don't mix, going to a show in the rain isn't really a lot of fun. Most people that I know who drive classic Fords only use them for the show season and there's probably not many people out there who use their L/Cs as everyday vehicles. If they did the bodyshell, which we all know is difficult and expensive to restore would deteriorate, resulting in another expensive rebuild. I would agree that a car trailered around is utterly pointless and it's something I would never do no matter how good the car was.

There are lots of times when trailering a car about is worthwhile... Car is unroadworthy, not road legal, competition car, owner wants to bring more than one car, a van full of spares, van full of stand equipment a motorhome etc.
This thread might be more productive if we spent it discussing what people want to do (and where) on a national day.
Personally I'd like to see it at the Pageant of power, should be cheap, good camping, super action on track.
Another option might be a trip through hindhead tunnel..Imagine what 20+ LC's going through there would sound like!!
