Mk1 Lotus Cortina LKE651B
Hello. This is my first step back into the world of MK1's since the early 1970's. To that end I purchased this car last month and am very happy with it even though it needs a complete mechanical rebuild. My problem is that I bought it from a life long Lotus man, Merv ALDRIDGE but sadly due to ill health he is unable to supply me with any history. He supplied the V5 which shows it manufactured in 1964 and imported into the UK in 2011. The dashboard is signed by Sirs .. John Whitmore and Jack Sears, who I believe were Mervs friends so I am sure there must be stories to tell about that. Please can anyone shine a light on any history for the car please ?. Regards John

Hello Fosworth,
I know Mervyn well but do not know of the car's history but I was with him at the 50th Anniverary do at Brands Hatch in 2013 when Sir's Jack & John signed his car. If my memory serves me well they signed the inside of the boot hood.
Welcome to the forum.

Dave, Thanks for that and what a great start to building a picture. As I hope you can see from the attachment, they signed the glove box.

Sorry about that John. The old memory doesn't seem to serve me as well as it used to! Having said that Mervyn had two cars & may have taken both cars over the two days.
I couldn't see the attachment. Could you have another go please?

Dave. I now realise I can't post pictures yet so I will contact admin. Yes, I believe he had two cars, the first of which he may have sold at COYS but when I have no idea. I got the feeling it wasn't too long ago.

Save. I'm still trying to attach a pic so please be patient.
Keith. Thanks for that. I can't open the link or attach.. I must be trying to jump before I can walk so don't worry. What date was that auction and I'll find it from there.

Keith. Thanks, that is the one. The reg was on several parts in Mervs garage. As you can see there is no sale value on the Coys site ( that I can see ) but Merv suggested it didn't sell for very much.

Re: Mk1 Lotus Cortina LKE651B
Dave. At last I have managed to attach the photo of the signed dash. Before you all shout, I know most dash panels have 'Cortina' on them but I am aware of several that have 'Delux' on. There are a number of oddities on the car which are mainly due to the last owner being so unwell he seems to have randomly selected parts to fit. Even down to one of the Lotus badges being on upside down .. so very sad for him.
