Lotus cortina short block

Post by Mk1cos »

Hi and thankyou for letting me join...

I have uncovered a 1.6 X/f block, crank, rods and Pistons which has been stored in a shed for over twenty years,,the old boy who has it recons it's from a lotus cortina..can anyone shed any light,,I have the engine number 681F6015DA
I have googled it and comes back as having a tall block?
And also bonhams auctions sold a 1963 lotus cortina and reading the spec ,the engine had the same code,so could this be a short block from a lotus?.
It turns over so not seizure, any idea on its value?
Thanks for all the help
I also have a couple of pics that I took on my phone

681F-6015 was used in later Mark 2 Cortinas

681F-6015 is the casting number not the engine number, so it would depend how the block was machined, as to whether it's a lotus block, or not. Engine number should be stamped on the top of the right hand engine mount boss. The engine number should indicate whether it was a lotus engine, or not.

Don't have a picture, but if you look at the right hand side of the block, looking from the flywheel end, you will see a boss with 4 bolt holes in it for the engine mount. If you look at the top of this boss, facing upward is stamped the engine number. When a twin cam engine is in a car, with the head and carbs on it, the engine number is right below the carbs and behind the distributor, so hard to see or to take a picture of.

Does the block in question have an L cast on it?
