And all but one of those cars will be travelling up from the South. I seem to recall Northern members complaining about the club / club events being biased towards southern members , yet every event in a central of northern location gets next to no support from members in those regions.H Cortina wrote:I know Rikki is away but do I detect a distinct lack of interest in this?
Can we do no better than 6 cars for a National centrally located?

If you look at the regional breakdown of members in the Autumn 2015 QB it might explain why!Steve 155C wrote:And all but one of those cars will be travelling up from the South. BY far, the majority of owners are in the home counties, London, Essex, Middlesex Herts, Surrey, Sussex, Kent accounts for 100 members, whereas the Warwick area has 15-20, (that's members not cars on the road, but the split is likely to be similar).
I suppose the question is, how far is the average member prepared to drive their car to an event?
We all know one ex police car that rarely leaves its county!

That can't be the answer.
I seem to remember the last National day I attended at Gaydon there were dozens of cars present.
The weather was good and the museum provided an excellent attraction but the location was about as central as you could get yet many drivers had travelled considerable distances (200 mile round trip in my case).
Could the explanation for low attendance be just good old fashioned apathy?

I went to the national last year and mine was a 400 mile round trip so maybe we could alternate between Gaydon/Brands orWarwick/ Brands how about putting it to a poll to see which is the more popular venue. I favour Brands not only because of the proximity to the majority of members but the racing is great bonus.

I feel the theme of the venue is the problem
Educational country show and victorian shopping centre
Not really appealing to a petrol head
Maybe its just me though ?

They get around 80 AVO cars attending plus a similar number of classics from guest clubs which are mainly Fords, so plenty to look at and talk about.
I used to worry about distance but not anymore. Get out there and drive your Cortina, you only live once so enjoy the thrill whilst you can.
It was a committee decision in respect of the venue so it stands for 2016.

I see some AVO's at a show every year & they certainly do have some fine vehicles. Thing is, I'm not aware of anyone ever coming over to talk about or look at Lotus Cortina's, which is just as well as I do worry about being around blokes with feather dusters.

My understanding is there is going to be a big turn out of all sporting fords from 60's-80's and all reports I have seen of previous events is its excellent.

Howard
You were looking for suggestions for next years National Day.
There is a Ford Fair at Silverstone each year.
I have never been but it come highly recommended, I have booked a ticket for this year August 7th to have a look at can report back.
Have a look at http://www.fordfair.co.uk/
I have booked a club ticket through a facebook group Midlands Retro Fords.

A few days ago I had considered this event but got a big thumbs down from four classic car owners.
This event is mainly centred around the "modern" classics, ie Focus ST.
