I can recall going to Canvey Island around about 1979 ish,to pick up a Lotus mk2 CTC 16E , with my mate Paul Brown, we brought it back to Leytonstone he drove it for a couple of months then the last time I saw it was in a lock up garage with the head off the engine.
I was wondering if it was still around

Hello Rob,
Ive finally arrived as Keith said I would be, had trouble getting logged in.
As Keith said, I now own the car. Restoration will be in full swing once ive collected enough body panels and parts.
I would be very interested to talk to you regarding CTC and any contacts of other owners or tales of when you know of it.
Do you know who was responsible for the sunroof?!
Matt

CTC16E
Hi Guys,
I bought CTC16E from a friend of mine in Wickford (almost Canvey, Rob) for £400. I'd previously been with him to buy it from someone else locally (for £295) after he'd tried to get a MkII Savage but kept coming across 1300cc Cortinas with 3ltr engines and no uprated brakes etc...
I drove it for 7 or 8 months until it started suffering from bad overheating and loss of power. I stripped it, did some work to the engine and left it in my garage for a few years as I was on very low wages and had a young family to provide for.
I sold it to Steve Messenger's ex-wife when I was trying to raise some money for a deposit for a house and Steve inherited it when they divorced. I heard that Steve was trying to sell it but wasn't sure what stage he was at. I am glad it's gone to a good home and will finally get restored.
Can't tell you anything about the sun-roof as it came with it. All I know is it was the most fun car I've ever had and was the envy of many of my friends (and enemies) in the days when we were throwing whatever engines and gearboxes we could into Cortinas, Anglias and Escorts.
I wish you well with the car and hope you get as much enjoyment as this 53 year old teenager did in the 70's.
All the best
Paul.[/b]

I was about 20, Keith, so it would have been around 1979. My friend only had it for a while (he lived in Wickford, just off the High Street) as he wanted to move onto another project. He was not much of a social mixer so I'm not surprised you didn't see it (him).
I never realised the significance of the car as it was all long before the internet. Oh to have perfect forward vision instead of 20/20 hindsight!

Hi Paul,
Very interesting story.
The engine must of been where you left it, in the boot!?
In the ad steve said it was straight with no accident damage but it has been hit up the back, had this happened in the time you owed it?
Id love to call you ans chat about storys of the car
I too bought this car when I was 20. I paid a lot more for it than you did!
Do you have any parts off it or any photos of when it was up and running?
Matt
