Uxbridge Autoshow

Post by Scott Simpson »

I have recieved the passes for Uxbridge and now need to send them out to all who agreed to come along.
I need some addresses from; Alan (YKK), John (sprint-gt), Colin (Cockney) and Carl Fiala.
Please PM me with your details and I'll get the passes sent off to you all.
It's £5 each for car and driver, which I'll collect at the show.
If anyone else fancies joining us, let me know ASAP and I'll sort out more passes and get the club stand enlarged.
Anyone else tempted? Mr Baldock? Bookermeister?

I can't make Uxbridge Scott but would certainly be nice to meet up with Mr Meyer while he's over here.

I live 10 miles south of Forest Row in Uckfield & am around 24/7 so if you have a slot Peter maybe we could meet up for a chat?

Hi David,
unfortunately my time is very tight. I arrive Thursday night, Friday to Brighton for my wife, Saturday a huge 60th birthday party for my very dear friend in Forest Row where I am staying. I need to be back in Forest Row early afternoon for lunch and Monday of to south of France for a week!
I will hopefully be back in October with a little more time. As I have said, I am really looking forward to the Sunday....

Hi Dave,
I take it the box is sorted then?
We do have a club stand at Uxbridge this year.
However, the 6 passes I applied for, have all been snapped up.
I spoke to Curly tonight, who's going to be the 7th L/C on the stand
and he told me he went on the Uxbridge Autoshow web-site and booked his ticket on the LCR stand from there. He said you need to go into the club stand bit and you'll need to pay the fiver required, by Paypal.
The details are on the web-site I'm told.
It'll be great to see you there. We haven't had 8 cars on the stand for many years.
That almost certainly means rain!!!

Box is sorted. Just need to replace perished fuel pipes to carbs (ethanol?) & I'm on my way.

Paid my dues for Uxbridge, £4 including grumpy old man discount so will see you there.

Thanks for the words of wisdom.

Hi Dave,
Be good to see you at Uxbridge.
Regarding your fuel lines, if you want to keep as much
of the original bits, as possible, you might want
to speak to Think Automotive in Isleworth, middx.
I've had several sets of fuel unions fitted with new
braided hoses (swaged as the originals).
They'll usually do it whilst you wait.

http://www.thinkauto.com/

They are really good to deal with.

Thank's Scott. I fired the old girl up this afternoon but had to abort with fuel spewing from the new pipe with the clamps screwed up to their max!

Will try to get up to Isleworth tomorrow. (My old stomping ground).

Thank's to everyone who came along and made our club stand look so superb. We had early and late Mk2's, in white/green, belonging to John Wray and Colin Glover respectively. Jim Grahams early alpina green Mk2,
Curly's late blue mink Mk2 and Andy Morrells late pink Mk2. Then there was my early s/e (running on all four cylinders, for part of the way home. Very rare!!), then Dave Baldocks late 65' Mk1, which he's owned since 69' and finally, Derrick Pensons 66' s/e, which he's owned since 71'.
Of course, I didn't remember to take my camera, so can't post up a pic.
A good day was had by all, especially Andy finding a box full of Motorcraft spark plugs for next to no money. I managed to find two NOS front wing badges for earlier Mk1's too, again for next to nothing. No bad feat considering that there were very few autojumble stalls pesent.
Funniest sight however, had to be 5 of us club members all walking along, carrying under engine/box drip trays. At £5 a pop, for a tray measuring 4'
long and 18" wide, we couldn't ressist. We told the stall holder that we had MGB's, but I think we were rumbled, when he spotted John's LCR polo shirt!
If anyone who came along, took a photo of our stand, could you post it up here.

Just a quick post to say how much I enjoyed the Uxbridge show on Sunday. Good weather, lovely cars & nice folk. What more could you ask for?

HXD ran like a dream back to Sussex but my euphoria wasn't to last for long.

Monday morning I tightened the manifold nuts with eliminated a slight blow picked out by Scott on Sunday. While I had the spanners out I checked the two rear sump bolts (long ones) as I had a very slight oil leak following my water pump change a few weeks ago. The first turned a little but the second sheared off in the block! Took it out for a few miles & looked this morning & no sign of oil on the floor but it means the engine will be coming out again, just hoping I can make it to the end of the 'season'.

Scott, I'll give you a tenner for your new drip tray!

Dave, in my experience, best preventative maintenance program for a lotus Cortina, is do not touch anything until the car stops working.....
