Yes Steve, the evening had a very nice feel about it & a big thank you to those nice West London boys for taking the trouble to make the trip south to support us.

I've emailed Robin, the owner, asking for the days the other clubs meet so that maybe we can select our own evening. It occurs to me that if he has 70 to 80 cars from the Healeys or the AVO's in his car park it's not going to leave much room for his 'normal' customers, most I imaging would be in the restaraunt spending more money than us keeping within the drink drive limits. If I'm being over thoughtful let me know!

When I get the days from him I'll post them & maybe we can all have a forum debate (or argument) on which day of the month we go for?

Looks as though we could have a few cars creeping over to Goodwood for the breakfast meet so fingers crossed for a nice day.

Chatting in the five bells last night someone brought up the practice of using a shoe to prop up the front seat. It reminded me, after all these years, that I used to carry a piece of wood under the seat for that very purpose.

Overcome with emotion I've just cut another piece. Only difference is that now I shall use it when I'm cleaning the windows.

This could become a separate piece Dave, describing the different items used. With your block of wood and my friends pair of shoes we're well under way. This could also cover which quarter light window to open and favourite spots to stop in. I hope this might stir some more memories.

Don't get me started on memories Geoff. If the club has it's own in house Mary Whitehouse I could end up in serious trouble.

I've had a reply from Robin at the 5 bells & his regular club meets at the moment are:
1st Tuesday of the month, Jaguar owners club.
2nd Tuesday of the month, The TR Club.
1st Wednesday of the month, Austin Healey Club. (Nice)
2nd Wednesday of the month, The Sussex RS club.

No mention of The AVO bunch but I'm sure they have a meet too.

I'm good for any evening, although, as I've said before, Monday evenings do see me at the Uckfield Cinque Ports Club grumpy old Lotus owners meet & a few times a year I like to get to the Club Lotus Avon meets for talks by old Lotus people on the 1st Tuesday of the month. As a matter of interest some of the speakers due this year include: Malcolm Ricketts, Historic Racing. Dennis Roberts, Ford Cortina. Russell Hayes, Ford Cortina. John Miles, Lotus F1 driver, late 60's early 70's. 'Gentleman' Jack Sears, Lotus Cortinas of course & Gordon Murray.
If anyone thinks they might be intersted just let me know.
It's a long way from Sussex but I find them very interesting & well worth the effort.

Over & out.

Blimey Dave!
That 5 Bells pub was right out there in the stix, as far as you could go in deepest darkest Sussex, I reckon.
Then when I finally get there and get in the boozer to meet up all you lovely country folk, I'm thinking to myself 'christ, I've stumbled into a Worzel Gummage convention'!!!
Well done Dave, a good time had by all. Ain't that right Aunt Sally (that's you Steve)?

Hello Sussex boys (& girls) & other interested parties.

Thought I'd keep the momentum going for the monthly Sussex pub meets.

As seen in my previous post the first & second Tuesdays & Wednesdays at the 5 Bells are spoken for, so I would like to suggest that we go for the first Thursday of each month. This would give us an reasonably equal spacing for fitting in with the West London meets if we should desire. (And visa versa).

That would put our next meet on the first of March.

If all interested parties could post their approval or disapproval, that would be good.

We can't please all of the people all of the time but, hopefully, we can get close.

Look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Regards.

It's about time i made a greater effort, but i need to be home before it gets dark.

May not make March as car is poorly but i'll aim for April. Mind you am i allowed to attend in a sporty Vectra?

Sporty Vectra will do just fine. If we get a nice evening for April I would hope to see a few LC's out. 5 Bells is a country pub, although it's on a main road, it's quite quiet with car park directly in front of pub.

Look forward to seeing you there.

My Lotus headlights are "nice but dim".

I'm too used to modern cars and zenon lights.
