HUR 318C Anyone?

Post by Lionel »

My old dad had this Mk1 from new & sold it late '70s I think. I'd just be interested to know if the "Lote" is, (unlike my dad) still above ground.

The car looked very much alive at Battlesbridge in August last year, see link. Registration is just legible.

I think that's Andy Morrell's sister car HUR 319C if I remember the lineup.

It does look like an 8 to me but it is hard to tell, so I could be wrong. Maybe Andy can give the answer, or the minor dent in the RH front wing might be a tell tale to someone....

I could be wrong here, but from memory is'nt HUR 318C a leaf sprung car, and HUR 319C an A-frame car?

318C was an 'A' frame car & my dad reversed it to stop I believe, the original config. splitting the axle casing?

Yes that would be dead right Lionel, cracked axle normal fare for A frame owners. Repaired mine again about 2 years ago, but this time fitted the stiffening tube, so hopefully won't have to do it again.

Up for sale again £50k on Ebay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133937796523 ... Swe2FhlWvz

Seller information : longfieldmotorco (Epping) - no mention of a reshell.

This MK1 Lotus Cortina was first registered to Lotus Cars Sales Department in Waltham Cross on 13th May 1965 and was kept by them until August 1967 when it was sold to the Seaford Service Station in Sussex and was presumably used as Demonstrator or Management vehicle as confirmed in the original buff Log book while in Lotus Ownership. The Lotus is an older restoration being with the last owner since 1998 and regularly attended classic car shows and events. The Lotus presents well with old Log Book and V5 registration documents and previous MOT certificates dating back to 1998 when it had 35,928 miles recorded on the Speedo, there is no earlier history so we are not able to warrant the low mileage, but she is very sweet and honest in all areas. Recently had new battery, starter motor and solenoid and brake master cylinder, Checks correct with all build data against the chassis number and its quite lovely that her first owner was Lotus Cars themselves. In the photographs I have included a close up of the chassis plate so you can check for yourself. Fitted with a stainless steel exhaust which enhances the exhaust note and appears good value in the current Mk 1 market.

Original pics of the car when owned by Ollie Ford's father years ago - he called it Superheap. Back in the day it had a pretty special non-synchro Hewland in a standard 2000E casing, (yes they apparently make a handful to Ford blueprints) with the A Frame mounted in reverse.
