This vehicle has NSW Historic registration. This allows it to be driven to and from car club events and for purposes such as repair and registration. If the vehicle was previously registered in NSW it is likely that the original plates were surrendered when Historic registration was taken out, but it is possible to "hold" plates for an annual fee.
Yes each State has a different registration authority and different plates and different rules. But then each state has a different rail gauge. Go figure!

car registration numbers mean nothing her in Oz
they do not identify any car or its history
you can transfer any from car to car or make up your own if its available
only thing that identify s a car here is it body stamp VIN
if its missing well the history of the car is too
i notice this car has 'repo' ID plates as well
peter i dont think you would see this car often as its not driven regularly
