With Brands Hatch only 20 minutes away and never having attended a track day before i was quite interested in this. Being in the 50+ bracket i am always concerned about insurance, checked with Footman James and i'm not covered for track days.
They put me in touch with Competition Car Insurance who quoted £87.00 for the day which is fine, BUT - excess would be £700! (10% of cars value). This is own car only insurance not third party.

My car is not a show or race winner, i would like to potter round at 60 - 70 mph just for the experience. The thought of someone in a 1.1L Escort out to impress his mates, losing it and rear ending me is of concern when it will cost me at least £700.00.

Am i being over concerned, or is it properly controlled?

Hi H,
That sounds about normal for trackday insurance, you end up paying more than the actual trackday fees and also have a huge excess. Personally I don't normally bother with any insurance.

Here is a another company you might want to try..
www.moris.co.uk

Next time you look at renewing your normal car insurance, ask around, because some compainies will cover track days if the organisers are members of the ATDO (These people are).

At least you guys can get insurance over there for track days. We have no insurance for the track at all over here. Does not matter what, where when or how, there is no insurance covering any racing at all. Only public liability for the organisers.

I checked with the organisers and it's free to spectate if you don't wish to risk the panels.
