I would rather keep the original scruffy v.i.n. plate than fit a brand new repro one. Brand new v.i.n. plates ring alarm bells for me.

Still got the original one on mine, paints a little thin, but I like the patina. It's not easy getting a repro one done with the correct rear stamping and digit spacing anyway.
Makes me smile when you go down a line of RS escorts with their bonnets up at a show and see the number of different looking v.i.n plates they have. Hmm I wonder how many real RS1800s still exist.
