End of West London Pubmeet

Hi All,

It is with sadness that I am now having to call a halt to the monthly West London Pubmeet. The meet was originally set up in 1984 by Derek Simpson and his young Nephew the irrepressible Scott Simpson!!!! I was the first member to attend on the very first meet at Wraysbury and the three of us hit it off straight away. That continued until Derek sadly passed away 2 years later.
Members old and new have blessed us with their company at various locations including the 5 Bells at Horton and the Crooked Billet at Staines ever since. At one meet at the 5 Bells we had 15 cars attend and regularly had 10 or 11 cars!
Unfortunately all good things come to an end and members will always come and go but over the last couple of years some of the stalwarts have ceased attending and although I have only missed 4 meetings since 1984 there has on many occassions only been 3 or 4 of us and sadly out of the last 10 meetings I have been the only member present on 4 occasions.
Therefore as of today and after being the only member attending again in November I am afraid there will not be an official LCR meeting at The Wheatsheaf in Old Windsor for the forseeable future.
Many thanks for your support over the years.

Andy M :(

Hi
For interested overseas members such as myself is there any one meeting in summer time when more than the usual number of members come out with their cars.
And how do you/we entice people so as to at least get one biggish UK gathering.
Kind Regards

Bruce Miles

The annual Lotus Festival at Brands Hatch at the end of August used to have quite a few but now gets about 5 or 6!
I think 'gatherings' are mainly regional events?

Great venue The Wheatsheaf but unfortunately enthusiasm ebbs and flows for all events and gatherings. I'm guilty in only attending once in at least 15 months.

Maybe the LCR is too specialised now. Wonder how other club pub meetings are fairing?
Graham Orchard how are your pub meet numbers these days?

I know a couple of Ford dealer "meets for coffee" have been well attended this year. Maybe this is what owners want.

Maybe a poll of the age of members then try to plan an appealing event to better cater to it.

Oh no Bruce - that'll end up as a tea dance followed by a nap......

Sounds like one of those 'Bikeys' conventions they have in Australia.
