Assuming that I had a 1966 car that was COMPLETE ,NOT a rot box with a good and again ,complete and unmolested interior ,rebuilt engine by QED does anyone know what the ball park figure might be (APPROX) for a complete nut and bolt rebuild and respray for such a car. And are there any firms that anyone could recommend to carry out such work to a reasonable standard.

Thank you.

Hi Keith, I can put you in touch with an excellent body-shop/garage in Stoke on Trent. If you would like to see the quality of their work, I can show you some of the cars that were done for me many years ago as well as cars that are 'work in progress'. They work on lots of old Fords and are also into the more modern Fords as well, Escort/Sierra Cosworths etc. The owner has a classic car collection which includes a genuine ex. BTCC Cosworth 500 plus a Mk2 Lotus he has restored for himself and his sons also race Cosworths so they are Ford men through and through. Send me a pm and I will give you the contact number if you want.

The cost will vary depending on how much of the strip you are prepared to do yourself. and how far you want to go. ie - do you want a bare metal respray inside and out , or just a key an repaint of the outside?

From experience you are looking at anything from £2500 for an bare metal outside only repaint on a bare shell (eg no stripdown required by the painter) to to to £10,000 + for a full show quality bare metal inside/out all over repaint. Again this would be on you delivering a bare shell.

If you then want someone to restore every other part of the car you are looking at many hours of labour. I'm not sure what the going rate is these days , but I'd expect it to be at least £50 and hour + vat. Multiply that by 100's of hours and you can see it all adding up.

Then you have to start factoring the cost of small parts and consumables , like nuts , bolts , bushes , hoses , seals , tyres - the list goes on.

You can see how it all begins to add up.

I can't see why you'd want a "nut and bolt rebuild" but only to a "reasonable standard".

If I was you I'd get the jobs you only want to do once get done properly , eg the bodywork , then get the remaining bits (eg the removable bits) restored to the same high standard as and when funds allow. That way you bolt them back onto the car and use it in the mean time.
