Recently bought Lotus

Post by steveh »

I have recently bought this car in the USA : BA 74FS71338 and wanted to know if anyone could tell me any history about the car. It is a road car ( not a racer) but I may convert it in to a FIA race car.
Thanks Steve

Hi Steve, with that Chassis number it is not a Lotus Cortina, was it sold as being a genuine car?

Yes, I was told & saw on one of the sites that BA 74 chassis numbers were 1966 Lotus Cortinas.
What is it then?

BA74 2 door deluxe body code is fine, FS is year month code so also fine, but number 71338 isn't fine, as having that number means it started out as a deluxe not a lotus, sorry :(

It amazes me how many people buy a car , then ask if its genuine.

I suppose this is only an issue if you've paid the price of a Lotus , and not that of a 2 door deluxe.

This car was spotted by the vehicle registrar of the Mark 1 O.C., Marc Gimmel, as being for sale on Ebay USA earlier on.
I don't know whether the current owner bought the car them, but the starting price of the auction was USD 20.000.
Nickname of the Ebay seller was 'learnfromthepast', which I think is ironic.

I suppose on the plus side , if its going to be raced it doesn't matter that its not a genuine car.

That particular car, BA74FS71338, has been added to our register as a "Cortina Deluxe". It is neither a Lotus-Cortina nor a Cortina GT. Sorry about that. If somebody had asked me I would have given that answer prior to a purchase.
