Hi All,
As you can see from elsewhere on the forum and in the press the National Day/Weekend is gaining momentum with the main event being a Lotus Cortina only race that promises to be a spectacular and possibly a once in a lifetime event!

This is something the committee have been working on behind the scenes with the organisers at Brands and Carol Spagg who is involved with U2TC.

As we get more info we will let you know but one of the issues is getting enough cars involved.
If you are interested and want to participate I will post the contact details when I have them.
Andy M

PS You all will be getting a letter from the club hopefully over the next week so look out for it in the post! :D

I've waited 32 years for this event only to find that it clashes with the Kent bi-annual family villa holiday in Menorca - buggar!!

Hi Folks
I don’t go to many shows but really fancy making a trip for the weekend to the national this year.
I don’t think I would derive much pleasure from driving my Cortina from Edinburgh to Brands Hatch in August- only worries about traffic jambs, so though I would tow it with my camper- some were to sleep- and drive the car on any run out at the event.
Is there a car park for campers and trailers- would hope to arrive Friday night and leave on the Sunday when the event closes.
Cheers
George

Hi George,
I'm not being flippant but Brands Hatch has hosted every Race Type you could think of over the last 70 years, it is not possible for a Formula 1 Grand Prix or any race event to just happen at 1.00pm on a Sunday!
For most it takes several days of preperation and most arrive on Friday if not Thursday, so where do you think they sleep!
Of course there is camping and plenty of it. Many Lotus owners will be arriving on the Saturday and have a social in the evening at the Kentagon (Pub/Restaurant). A good place to unwind and chat before the main event on Sunday.

Andy M

PS Last year camping was free!!

I just need to confirm with the organiser that camping is free for exhibitors as there is a suggestion on the Lotus Festival website that there is a charge this year

Update regarding camping arrangements - it's free to exhibitors and the organiser has informed me that we can even have our own area if there is enough of us wanting to camp! A further bulletin will appear in the forthcoming QB and will also be published on the forum

The following article has also just been published in the latest QB:

This is your opportunity to be involved in the biggest event in the club’s history, the 50th anniversary of the Lotus Cortina.

The club will be holding this year’s National Day at the Brands Hatch Lotus Festival over the weekend of 24th/25th August. This promises to be a very special event. The organisers of the Festival have made a big effort to promote the 50th anniversary and are planning a unique Lotus Cortina only race. We will also be given the opportunity of participating in a parade lap of the historic GP circuit. If you choose to come along to this unmissable event you will get the following:

• Free weekend entry for driver and one passenger
• Commemorative attendance plaque
• Light refreshments on arrival
• Free camping (in our own area if there are sufficient numbers)
• Mounted photograph of your car which will be posted on after the event
• Parade lap of the historic GP circuit

We are also hoping to provide a buffet lunch on the National Day for members and guests. Details are still at the planning stage so we will provide more updates in the next QB and the forum.

To summarise, yes it’s all free! If you havn’t already done so, please contact your local representative for this event. Further details of planned convoys from various locations across the UK will be announced in due course.

This invitation is of course also extended to all our overseas members but please bear in mind that the organisers can only guarantee free entry for those members who will be exhibiting a vehicle. If there are any overseas members who wish to attend please contact me via email at simonandflo@tiscali.co.uk

For everyone who wishes to attend, please indicate whether you will be attending on 24th or 25th or for both days of the show. Please also indicate whether you will be bringing a passenger and provide your current address details. This is very important to ensure we are allocated the correct number of tickets and also to ensure the tickets are posted to the correct address. Please ensure that if you initially express an interest and for whatever reason you are unable to attend please inform your local rep as soon as possible. Similarly if you originally state that you will be bringing a passenger to the event but your passenger is then unable to attend please contact me or your local rep. We may then be able to re-allocate the tickets and ensure that none go to waste.

The Committee will be putting in a considerable amount of time and effort in organising this event. Please therefore try to help us by ensuring that expressions of interest are received no later than 31st July . This will enable us to collate all the contact details and get the tickets issued well in advance of the event. No further entrants will be permitted after the deadline date so please don’t delay.

It is possible that this could be the largest gathering of Lotus Cortinas ever seen so we hope that as many of you as possible will be able to attend. Let’s make this a weekend we will all remember for a long time!
