Does anyone know of this car?

An old friend of mine has some interesting memories of it in the sixties!

Not known at the MK1 O.C., the registration didn't come up on the DVLA website either.

Hi Marcel

Thank's for looking. I forgot to mention it is (or was) a LC.

My friend's well into his seventies now & his memory isn't brilliant but he does remember that he bought it from an American artist in the sixties who later became very famous & that it had something bolted onto the bonnet (very American).

It seems he swopped it for a friends Lotus Elite without informing the DVLC & the police told them to change back because they were picking up each others speeding tickets & confusing the system.

If it does belong to someone now he could have some very interesting history on it (maybe some you wouldn't want to hear)!

Regards

My friend just called to say that the artist who previously owned his car was Roy Lichtenstein, an american artist who died in 1997. I did a Google search & found that a picture of his sold at auction in 1989 for $5.5 so, although I'd never heard of him, he could be considered to be 'well famous'. This leads me to wonder if anyone owns a LC with a famous previous owner & would it make any difference to the value of the car?
I seem to recall that a Mini Cooper S once owned by Peter Sellers sold for silly money some years ago.

$5.5 isn't very much....but I guess you meant $5.5m

Famous previous owners always have an effect on car prices in my experience.

Thank you 83man. I do indeed mean $5.5m.

Hi Dave,
There seem to be quite a few L/C's owned by the rich & famous. Bruce Reynolds is an obvious one, although 'Infamous' migh be a more appropriate term. A couple of early Mk 1's were owned by titled gentry, the Duke of Bedford being one. The drummer from Black Sabath crashed his late Mk 2 L/C into Richmond Park gates, causing a fair bit of damage. I believe someone either in or well linked to Pink Floyd owned a Mk 1. Then there's Sir John Whitmore, Dick Judd the drummer from Edison Lighthouse. I'm sure there are countless others that I've forgotten or don't know about.
