XLN 137 G, WHERE ARE YOU NOW ???

Post by shagnasty »

I owned a Mk2 Twin Cam 1968 model year, in 1975-6

Reg No XLN 137G

The car was in Sussex and sold to a chap who race preparred it for sprinting, he speant a lot of money and had a great car so it may just still be around.

I would love to find this car again if I can

At the time it was of course White and Sherwood Green with a Matt black Bonnet and had Good year alloy wheels.

Some kind person help please

Thank you, at least it survived until then if not beyond 93.

No my name is Kevin. I am from Burgess Hill but now live in Uckfield and have a keen interest in classic sports cars of which i have had and have a few.

I would love to put XLN back in the stable though.

According to DVLA records the car is not taxed or on SORN, so its either been off the road since 1993, or it went to meet its maker and nobody informed the DVLA

Thank you

All I can hope is that just maybe it is asleep somewhere and that someone see's this.

when I owned the car it was in tip top order and then bought by someone who lived close and he stripped rebuilt and prepared the car for sprinting, I know it survived that ownership and should by then have been a collectable vehicle so unless it has been damaged beyond repair hopefully in a lock up somewhere ready to be re-discovered !!!

It had a Cosworth built Twin Cam in it when it left my ownership.

Hi Kevin,
I think XLN was residing in Staines, Middlesex for a number of years, but I'm sure I remember it being reported as stolen by the owner back in the 90's.
I'm not sure if he ever got it back.

Thank you

That makes some sense as I doubt the car was a basket case.

If anyone has any more info I would be much obliged.

Thanks again

Would love to get it back

History

Post by shagnasty »

Just for info, someone somewhere will have this car, but not with original papers.

I was the 5th owner.

The 4th owner was a guy I played Rugby with, he could not drive but liked to look at this Twincy in his drive.

The 3rd owner was keith Gutteridge who back in the 70's and still today owns with his partner dave a verey very reputable body shop.

Keith bought the car after it was stolen for the first time from a car park at Brands Hatch.

he bought it as found, minus Engine and Gearbox from the Insurers.

Keith fitted the Cosworth engine and soon after sold it.

I paid £350 for the car and sold it 2 years later for £475.00 to the guy in Burgess Hill who race preped it.

There is a tell tale sign the rear wing drivers side had a hole in it for a key operated burglar alarm. This was badly flushed over, this may help someone.

Anyway;

How much now days shall I pay for a Mk i or 2 Lotus Cortina in basket case, goo0d or show condition ??

I will have to dig deep in the grey matter to recall.

I can not remember his name, I know his address ( at that time) and I recall he paid me £475 for it. He worked for a local Building Company in Haywards Heath. I remember he stopped me on the street and asked if I would sell. I had just completed a water pump exchange and accepted his offer !!!

Waht is your interest ??

The previous owner was a Mr Ian Cotton from Chanctonbury Road in Burgess Hill. and prior to Ian a Mr Keith Gutteridge owned the car. I am still in contact with Keith after all these years.

Any news on the car would be much appreciated, although I suspect it may be incognito.

Thanks
