LOTUS CORTINA OGLE AUCTION AT BONHAMS

I would just like to inform everyone that I have decided to have the Cortina Ogle auctioned by Bonhams this October 12 in England.

I had wanted to keep it but our Philippine law prohibits the registration and use of right hand cars in the streets.

Bonhams feel that the car will fetch a record price for its class because of its heritage and rarity. Would be nice if Sir Stirling Moss and Sir John Whitmore can see the car before its auction.

BTW, I will fly to London to witness the auction and it would be nice if I can meet some of the LCR members based there.

Hi Ceed - what estimate have Bonhams put on the car?

Steve,

Bonhams is looking no less than 50,000 pounds for the car. If any member would like to buy the car before it is auctioned I am open to negotiation.

Hi Ceed - Which country is the car registered in? If not a EU country then there will be a sizable amount of import duty and VAT to pay on the selling price.

The car is in the Philippines now. If I bring the car to England for auction, do I have to pay custom duties and taxes or will that be shouldered by the buyer?

Normally the buyer would have to pay the duties. The buyer could be from anywhere in the world - so its not point paying UK duties if it ends up else where.

That said, I'm not sure how you would get it though UK customs without paying the duties though - but Bonhams will be able to advise you on the best way to handle that.

The people from Bonhams informed me that the car will be placed in a bonded warehouse until auction day.

What I would like to know is how to get in touch with Sir Stirling or Sir John so that they can see the car before it is auctioned.
