For those of us old enough to remember and those that can't but would like to learn more, there's an exhibition of World Rally Cars from the London to Mexico era at the Heritage Motor Museum, Gaydon..

The 1968 London to Sydney event is also included and the Triumph and Land Crab register will be in attendance. We've been asked to take "Colin" the Cortina along to represent the Roger Clark Lotus Cortina part of the show.

Hi All,

A friend of my brothers had for many years the 4 door Mini Cooper that competed and I think finished the Rally. What a fantastic car it was. Apparently built by the developement team just to gauge the reaction from the public to a 4 door car. It was an after thought to enter it into the rally.
I remember it had a specially reworked "xflow" cooper head with twin 45s coming out of the front of a "1 off" designed square type bonnet (Later to become the Mini Clubman style) It was 1430cc if I remember correctly. The N/S/R door was the O/S/F turned around and the O/S/R was the N/S/F turned around!
It had twin shockers on every corner so if you stood at the side of it and 2 of you pushed it to try and make it roll slightly it was rock solid and didn't move an inch. I bet they felt every bone crunching bump.
Wonder where it is now? Number plate ended in 2H can't remeber the rest.

Not great.... But that'd be because I was stuck in Istanbul for 6 days trying to get home!

My son took the car along and apparently it was well received. The HRCR (Historic Rally Car Register) approached him and want to run an article on it, so must have generated some interest.

I'll post some pics, when work calms down!
