The tophat masters series has a full race day on Easter Monday at Castle Combe. There will be 4, 2 driver 45 min races and a crowd of 10,000+ is expected.
There are 4 separate classes from pre 1960 touring cars upto 70's saloons and sports/GT's , including the Pre 66 GP2 Historic Touring Cars which should see some LC action.
More info on the race classes here:
http://www.tophatracing.co.uk/series.html
I'm going to try to get to this event myself , so if anyone fancies meeting up let me know.

Just bringing this one back to the top.
Should be lots of great LC action. (and quite a few LC's in the car park!). Let Steve or myself know if you want to come along and support the racers.
Cheers
Louis

Hi Steve,
The Chippenham road car park (yellow) is a good place to park up, being half way between Quarry and the paddock...
It's practice in the morning and racing after Lunch, so I'll probably get their about 10ish.

Great day out.
Loads of LC action (including a 'incident').
I'll post up results when I see them (could'nt hear the tannoy!).
Here's my first couple of photos...
Lovely mk2 in the car park, did'nt get a chance to meet the driver.
That's not coming from the LC!
This was the damage to the Ivor Miller car after a nasty T-bone incident with a Mustang.
Cheers
Louis
P.S Special mention to Nick Stagg who retired early in the stars of the 70's race and had to stay trackside the entire race, whilst being passed by some of his own built (great sounding) BDA escorts!

Unfortunately, I couldn't make the Castle Combe meeting yesterday, but I was at the Easter Monday meeting in 1967...March 27th.
The saloon car race "B" that day had 3 Lotus Cortinas entered together with numerous Anglias and Cooper S's. Surprisingly, none of the Lotus Cortinas was placed, the winner being Brian Cutting in his 1900cc Anglia at an average speed of 86.05 mph.
The final race of the day, a handicap race , had just Vince Woodman driving a Lotus Cortina and he too was unplaced. The winner was Ron Fry in a Ford GT40 with an average speed of 92.77mph.
How do these speeds compare with todays?

Fastest LC time of the day was 1:24.7 which works out about a 78mph average speed. Of course they have put in those 2 chicanes since 67.
