Not meaning to sound rude but maybe your friend should stump up £20 to become a member of the LCR, furnish us with the full details of the cars in question tell us what sort of condition they are in and we may be able to help. as for us just to give details out to someone who we do not know of cars which could go on to be cloned is not how this service works.

Rick: just want to say how I agree with your sentiments. There seem to be more and more "friends" of forum readers who are either too mean or idle to join the LCR but expect you to cough up information for nothing.

I asked for info on a LC for a friend who hates computers and OK i had they same response which i found a little harsh, some people dont like the club scene ? he is one of them people so we will source the history elsewhere thanks, you the club seem to be OK with people posting pictures of non members cars on your open Forun showing the reg number for all to see so if you worried about cloneing then you should address this problem ??? as its the other one of my friend cars that was posted on here !

Suggestion........

Maybe the LCR just needs to have a stock answer that they either do or don't have knowledge and/or information pertaining to any potential LC enquiry; then if the enquirer wants to know what the info is....they need to become members.

This is how I ended up on here. And I thoroughly enjoy the goings-on on this forum. As it happens nobody knew of my old car now sadly gone....but I am sufficiently interested in LCs that I forked out a mere £20 to join in the fun. I have learned loads since. And I don't even own a LC.

I can't for the life of me understand why somebody wouldn't stump up £20 if they are so keen on gaining insight into the history of the cars they are supposed to be so interested in? The DVLA charge for info., the Heritage Trust charges £40 for basic info on BMC cars....but surely its peanuts in the grand scheme of things? On top of this info., you get all the genuinely knowledgable people on board to help with any number of technical or detail stuff you might need help with. Win-win or what??

But....it might put some off to join, only to find the answer is "nothing known sorry", if that's their main interest.

Just an opinion.

Information on any LC pictured on here can be obtained in seconds

Any chassis No can be obtained from reg No
Also reg No can be obtained from Chassis No

What i do think is madness is most cars now display chassis number in windscreen.
I legally have to collect cars sometimes (Finance repo and bankrupts). On many occasions I have had Merc and BMW keys made over the counter at main dealers ?
If I can get a key for your car with ease so can a car thief ?????

I dont want to look like im just here to upset things as im not, but what you said in the first line doesn't answere anything ? what was said was the club wont give out info for 2 resaons not a member and because of cloneing but you allow pics of non LC club memebers cars to be posted on an open forum then that makes it easier to find the info for others ? Just because my friend does not want to join a club he still has the same interest as you guys and that is the love of old Ford performance cars.

The LCR policy of not giving out information that they may hold is a good policy regardless of what can be obtained through the official websites or transport offices. It may be easy to obtain the chasis number but you will not get the info relating to the trim codes or paint codes (MKII LC).

It is very easy to build a clone but all cars have a history and that is the information that the LCR must protect. Build a clone of a Jim Clark car and you will have a nice car but without knowing the history of the real thing you just have a clone car and a bulls##t story.

If you think Rick's answer is a bit harsh then perhaps we should think about what we are after and for what then present the request in an informative manner.

Im just asking for some info for a frinds new LC of which i have been told the club has history going back to 1990, we have pics of the car showing black wing tops and what looks like a club rally look etc and want to put it back to what it once spent most of its life and if it was as a rally car then thats what it will go back to if it spent most of its life as a road car then we know which way to restore it.

you do not sound rude at all and i understand/agree with your comments i did explain this to the owner who as given me all 3 log books so i can pass the vin numbers onto you if that helps
all 3 have been off the road/stored for many years, and in need of lots of tlc

"Need lots of tlc" - excellent just what we thrive on. Get your friend to join for a measily £20.00 and share the photos of the cars with all of us.

The advice you get on here is top drawer and supplied by genuine enthusiasts who want to help others look after their cars. Most LCR members seek "originality", your friend will benefit hugely.

Christmas is here, get someone in his family to sign him up for a years membership as a present.

The LC analogue service works very well, give good QB material, but does cost the £20.

Your friend who dislikes computers should find this right up his street.
