CLC 452H

Post by Roger Gray »

During the last 40 years I have owned a Cortina from each series but the one that sticks in my memory most of all was a ' 69 Mk2 Lotus Cortina with a Crayford Coupe conversion - registration CLC 452H.

She was a couple of years old when I brought her. Painted in white with rostyle wheels, front quarter bumpers, (ala Escort twin cam), the twin black coachline and other finishing exterior touches from a 1600E and she looked stunning ! I still think of the Mk2 being the best looking, ( I guess its an age thing), of the Cortina's.

I was contacted by her new owner quite a few years back and had the privilege of being shown her in all her newly restored finery. I just wish that had owned a digital camera at the time - he ho.......anyway I would love to find her again and take some photo's and chat to her new owner - can anyone point me in the right direction.?

Hi Roger - welcome to the forum. I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell you abit your old car.

Living in Horsham myself i was getting excited thinking there was another LC in town that I didn't know about.

Hi Steve,

CLC452H was a local car - the previous owner was a Mr Jupp who lived at Mannings Heath. I have very fond memories of this car and have to say that in my youth I was a bit of a lad about town. Probably before you time but North Street and Park Street were connected opposite the Sun Alliance building (a 180 degree tight bend) and the handing of her was such that she felt like she was cornering on rails - and I have to admit that on a couple of occasions that I had her in second gear under full power and generous amounts of opposite lock through that bend. Have grown up and got responsible and raised a family since then but the memories still linger. Would love to meet up for a chat and see your car if you a mind to meet a reformed hooligan.

Hi Roger - I've just found a picture of it in my collection. I'm guessing the picture was taken in the 80's and the car is look a bit sorry for its self , with a red boot and a red pair of doors. I'll scan the photo and post it up when I get a chance.
