Oil Leak!!

Post by Martin W »

Hi,
Ive recently bought a Lotus Cortina mk1 and noticed there’s an oil leak....no surprise there, however can someone recommend a local garage/ Mechanic who specialises in these engines to get it looked at and possibly service too?
I live in Warsash near Southampton Hampshire

Kind regards
Martin

Hi Martin, I can't think of a specialist in your area, but if you can find an old school type garage they should be able to help.

I found these online, but have no experience using them.

Just the one ? You lucky man !!

You could clean the engine up then take it for a drive to see where it's leaking from

Hi
Sorry for the delay in responding.
Ive cleaned the engine as best i can and it looks like its coming from the area of a vertical breather tube!
Is something blocked, as my thoughts are that its finding the weakest point to leak??
Kind regards
Martin

Hi Martin,
Yes they can leak a bit....... I currently have my engine out to replace the water pump, I decided to take the engine out rather than trying to replace the pump in situ which I am told is not easy, so that I can hopefully cure the various leaks at the same time.
I use Autoglym Engine and machine cleaner to clean my engine, engine bay and everything underneath which over time gets covered in a mist of oil from the various leaks. Spray it on then agitate area with a brush, (I use a paint brush) leave it for 10 minutes or so and blast it off with water from a hozelock garden spray pump, the one with the small hose as it gets into all the awkward places. It cleans brilliantly.
I am local to you I live in Sarisbury green, who have you gone with for the oil leak and service.

Paul
