Question

Post by lowflyer »

I have an original Mk 1 LC wood rim steering wheel, that was removed from my car in 1970 when I started racing it.

I am told that it is quite valuable. Any ideas on this?

I also have the small silver "Indy" plate from the centre console.

Sadly, that's all that I have left, other than some great memories.

No picture readily available.

Plain wood rim with finger grooves, three aluminium spokes with slots, small black and silver centre button with Lotus emblem.

It came on a Mk 1 made in Nov. 1965.

Hi Ken. That would be the most common version of the steering wheel. It all comes down to condition and completeness - eg with or without boss and horn push etc. Assuming its a complete steering wheel in reasonable condition (no stress cracks in the wood rim) then you should expect £500+ for it.

Thank you.

It has the "horn" button but not the mounting boss.

For the last 40 years or so it has hung on the wall of my office with a few photos of the car.

One of the "ones that I wish I had back".

You can buy the boss separately as a repro on Ebay Ken.
