8022 RU

Post by Lulu »

Does anyone have any information on 8022 RU?

It was originally in Dorset but last thought to be in the Liverpool area.

It was slightly unusual in that it came from the factory with a blue stripe (not green).
It was also the SE but wasn't badged as such.

Thanks for any information.

Hi Lulu,
8022 RU was restored in two parts, over the last couple of decades.
First part was done in Yorkshire, but the owner was none too happy with the finished shell and sold the car on to a well known L/C restorer in Devon. He finished the restoration to a very high standard and I'm sure sold it on during a clearout of his L/C collection a couple of years ago.
He's known on this forum as Devon Boy, if you send him a PM, via the memberlist, I'm sure he'll fill in all the gaps for you.
I understand that this car was not a factory S/E, but the package was fitted later by a main dealer.
Hope this helps.

Thanks guys.

I've just PM'd Devonboy.
I'll come back here with info if he has anything.

(P.S. My grandfather was the first owner.)

Hi Lulu,
It’s very nice to hear from you.
8022RU is here in Japan now!
She is sitting on my friend's garage and is waiting for a new owner!
Please have a look the picture.
I also have seen the car in York and Devon days.
Do you have any pictures of 8022RU at that time?
I’m very interested in that it came from the factory with a blue stripe.
Your grandfather ordered with a blue stripe?
Then Lotus painted a blue? It’s option?
Thank you.

Hi Lulu,
There you go! You can buy it back for your family!
Shipping costs from Japan shouldn't be too horrendous.
As Hiro asked, do you have any photo's of it with the blue stripe?

Hi Hiro,

Thank you for your reply.
It's even better to hear from you!

As far as I know it was 'ordered' with a blue stripe.
I don't know the process or sequence in terms of who handles the cars from inception (ie Ford, Lotus, dealer, etc) before they're sent to the customer.
(For example Scott has indicated the SE package was fitted by a dealer, which implies some came out of the factory as SEs, otherwise some were 'converted' to SEs. Unfortunately I have no information on this myself.)
The reason for the blue stripe was that my grandmother was superstitious about green. There's no way a green stripe being overpainted with a blue stripe later in the process would have been acceptable.
I don't think for one moment it would have been an 'option' in the sense that today you specify a build on cars but, quite simply a customer requirement.

I don't have photos myself but, I will make inquiries in case others' have any photos.
If you have any more photos yourself that would be fantastic.

It looks like it's kept in storage. Do you still drive her?

Thanks
Lulu
