So is anyone Volunteering to organise this?I quite like the idea of having the LCR National at the AVO day. Their events organiser comes on here (I think he's called Mexico Tim) and they do invite other clubs to attend , so this should be fairly easy to get organised.

If we go the regional route, I volunteer to do the organising if it's held at Battlesbridge on the August all Ford weekend, as I do that already for the club stand, (it just means a larger stand every four years or so) but I'm not intrested in a National role as the job is doomed through lack of support for a centralised National.Rick wrote:Keith & Simon. You both have some great ideas for moving the National Day forward. But these ideas need someone to put them in to practice. We still do not have a Events Secretary after making appeals for someone to step forward. I for one will not organise another National Day. So unless someone comes forward to take up the position of Events Secretary none of your great suggestions are likely to see the light of day.
We could pass on the role annually to the next region.

Interesting thread you guys got going here.
as previously mentioned in this thread, i am the events organizer for the avo club. Last weekend was our national day and we only had 70 cars on the members parking (88 last year) out of a membership of 500 ish,we had 86 members sign in with 56 signed in with a avo car there on the day.
we are currently surveying our online members to see what direction to take our national day.We have always been at Stanford hall since 1981
This day is the only day we organize as a club but we have 3 regional day were we have a club stand as part of a show (southern at Uxbridge, western at Tatton in August and Northern at Ripon Racecourse)
Ill be at Uxbridge if any of you guys are about.
Apart from those 4 events the club properly wont be seen at that many other events because our club members don't seem to use there cars that often.
Some 1 asked about other Ford show, how about the big cortina show at Stratford racecourse in august.
As a side note if there are any members from the Bucks/Oxon area then feel free to come along to our club meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Plough and Anchor in Kingswood on the A41 between bicester and aylesbury

It would be nice to get some input on here from members who do actually live more centrally in the UK or with in driving distance of a central location.
Don't remain silent. Throw some idea's into the arena and lets see if we can all pull together an make it happen next year (and no , thats not be volunteering to organise it all but I am happy to help where I can)

I do not live central however, i think any National should be held centrally, its only fair. Why is the Nec located where it is, because its central. I went to the national at Gaydon last where over 30 LC's turned up, is this considered a good turn out? We do not seem to be privy to car attendance figures for previous nationals or locations so who know whats good or not(weather should be taken in to consideration as well). We could do a vote.Steve 155C wrote:It would be nice to get some input on here from members who do actually live more centrally in the UK or with in driving distance of a central location.

My opinion for what its worth..., this is a 'National' not a 'Regional' therefore should be held in a central location, maybe included with other motoring shows, so there is lots going on with like minded car enthusiasts and good public attendance with a good atmosphere.

we had 8 visiting clubs booked in this yearSteve 155C wrote:Hi Tim , what other car clubs attended the AVO day and what was the total of all cars displayed , not just the AVO ones?
Rally sport escorts
105e Speed (anglia's)
Droop Snoot Group
RS Owner club
Bedford RSOC
nuts4 ford
Avenger and Sunbeam OC
Old skool ford
not sure how many did turn up but between them they had 160 cars booked in,we also had a classic car parking which got very full.
I felt we had to many 'new' classics there and want to see more 70 and 60s club in attendance

I had a few things to say when I heard where this years National was going to be held, so I suppose I should comment as requested from a central location - West Midlands.
No one seems to have mentioned Gaydon, I think we had our biggest turn out ever at the first Gaydon National day - correct me Andy if thats wrong.
Also not mentioned is Mallory Park again some very good turn outs. Are we looking for a permanent home for this event - which should and always be, the biggest in our calender or are we looking to spread it about, that has to be the first decision. I favour the permanent central home situation, every one knows where they stand with this approach and can plan accordingly and its fair.
RS owners have been at Stanford for how long ? they seem happy. Stanford sounds a good idea, I am sure we would be a very worth while addition or is that a bad thing as I know the RS`s like a lot of attention.
Whats the situation with the MK1 club relationship - Stratfords central and always a good day for parts, buying or selling. If you are looking for a location thats free every year it wont happen, you have got the car and how much have you spent on that ? I know the answer to that one as I have had mine seventeen years. So it might just cost a few bob for a day out.
The stand I have organised for Cars in The Park - Lichfield - very central -this week end (Sunday July 3rd) for my local club always attracts many makes for their national day, we have twenty cars to show on our club stand including six Midlands LCR Cortinas, I consider that a result.
Another big show up here that we are booked in at with our local car club is at Shugborough near Stafford in mid August, a show with usually over 1000 classics. I already have ten cars for for our club stand at this event and I bet our local LCR Cortinas will want to come as well, so you see there lots of interest up here.
So Centrally you have Gaydon, Mallory, Stanford, Stratford, Lichfield, Stoneleigh I think has gone, Silverstone is not really an option, Tatton Park a good show, but may be a bit too far north and a new show at Cholmondesly Castle near Whitchurch Shropshire, this event is a smaller version of the Goodwood Festival of Speed with loads to see and plenty of action boats, cars and planes. Down side to this one is it has entrance fee costs.
There`s a few ideas in the pot to ponder, If its central, I will help if required, God knows I do enough for Owen Motoring Club a bit more wont hurt !!!! and I like you love my LC and would like them to meet up several times a year not just one.
Having missed the National day a few weeks ago, and thats only the second in sixteen years, I look forward to seeing some of you at Silverstone in a few weeks time - whos going on Saturday ?

It seems to be coming down to a Central v Regional debate and as we know, only a minority of the membership use this forum, it would probably benefit us to cast the net wider to the whole membership, on this decision alone, then we can take it foward to a consensed conclusion.
If we carry on as we are, we'll just get all the opinions and no agreement.
Over to the Committee to decide how to proceed?

Hi Keith , I think there is room for both central and regional, as that is what happens today anyway. It would be good to get the message out in advance about the regional ones though. I know you publicise the Essex ones here and in the QB , but I had no idea about the central ones that Anton + other LCR members attend through out the year. I'd imagine these are attended by hard core local members that have been going for years but any new members potentially could be missing out on local meets.

Cars in the Park
Just a few words about the show we attended last Sunday, the biggest turn out I have seen at this show since it started some ten years ago, thats cars and people, it was packed.
The OMC club stand hosted four LC`s two Mk1`s Tim Turner from Rugby and Mine plus two Mk2`s Karl Foster form Burntwood, Karls Series 1 Mk2 is a stunner and a sure National Day award winner for the future and Adam Gooding from Stoke. We should also have had the Mk1 owned by Will Paxton, but he somehow ended up in the general display. A great day out and yes we had the weather. Will get Loui to try to add photo to th post.
